The KC Remote Backup Service is a fully-automated process that utilizes your high-speed Internet connection to upload files to our secure
server. Files are encrypted using a password that you provide, securing access to your backup. This service is designed to be an additional
layer of protection for your critical files. It is also a far more convenient method of restoring a mistakenly-deleted file or folder.
How it works
Once you order the service, we'll send a technician out to perform the first backup as well as install and configure the software to your
needs. In a server environment, this is typically installed on that device, but any Windows 2000 or later operating system is supported.
Our custom application runs in the background to monitor changes and can be accessed at any time via the icon in the system tray, by the
clock. Taskbar Icon for KC Remote Backup Service What you need for this serviceAny PC running Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or any Windows-based server 2000/2003/2008 can run the software. Beyond the system requirements you will need a high-speed Internet connection to facilitate the daily backup. If your business utilizes a firewall, we may also need to provide us with access to that device so that we can configure appropriate rules to allow the backup connection. SecurityYour files are backed up to our server which is mirrored to yet another location outside of our Whitewater office. Before the data even gets here your files are heavily encrypted with a key of your own choosing (you must type it in when we setup the software). Your chosen password is known only by you and even KC employees cannot access your data without it. This also means that even if someone was able to intercept the data stream between your location and our servers, the information would be useless. Restoring filesAlthough the software does allow you to restore your own files (from the restore menu at the top), this can be a dangerous process since it will overwrite files currently on your system. We would prefer if you call us 262-473-1064 for assistance in this manner. Based upon your chosen preferences at time of installation, this and other features, can be locked out of your panel to prevent accidental/unintended restorations.
KC Remote Backup Service file restore interface How to tell if it's working & running backups manuallyAlthough most backups are set to run in the evening, you can always use the KC backup client (by double-clicking the icon in the system tray) to check if a backup was run, force a backup to run immediately, and/or restore files. When you open the client, it will display any failed jobs. If you would like to run a backup immediately to be certain you have everything uploaded to our servers in its most current version, just choose Run Now from the Run menu. The status will be shown in a pop-up window like the one below. ![]() KC Remote Backup Service Backup Progress | ||||||||||||||||||
